Fujitsu Frontech North America has announced the launch of the PalmEntryXS palm vein biometric access control system.
According to Fujitsu, the new solution features an ergonomic design, leveraging the company’s PalmSecure technology. The company is displaying this new system at ISC West 2014, at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas, and it will also be on display in the New Product Showcase at the event. Fujitsu is located in booth 7054.

Fujitsu’s PalmSecure biometric technology measures the unique characteristics of users palm veins and uses near-infrared light to capture a pattern for recognition and verification. Due to the fact that blood needs to be flowing through the veins to create the vein pattern, the company says this provides a level of liveness detection which has a role in preventing spoofing.

The new system, the PamEntryXS includes a wrist guide to facilitate the correct placement of user’s hands. There is also a new four-color LED display that assists users through the verification process. This can work in conjunction with other forms of ID, like RFID badges, tokens and PINS, or can be used as a standalone system.

“We have listened to customers and prospects and are delighted to be introducing this critical addition to our physical access control family. The design and user interface of the PalmEntryXS solution will make it a more compelling solution for many secure locations,” Randy Fox, vice president, currency handling and identification product solutions, Fujitsu Frontech North America said. “Although the design is new, customers will appreciate that it still uses the tried and true PalmSecure technology that Fujitsu has offered for years.”

Reported previously in BiometricUpdate.com, Fujitsu has hinted that its palm scanners could soon find a home inside smartphones and tablets.
