While the Catholic and Orthodox churches are calling for an increased emphasis on the sacredness of the environment, not a lot is mentioned about the reality of the Creator. This is in accordance with what Paul stated in the book of Romans, chapter one.

September 1 - Pope Francis and Bartholomew: Joint Message for the Care of Creation

For the first time, Pope Francis and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew have released a joint message on the occasion of the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, established by the Pontiff in 2015 on September 1st. The Pope had mentioned it during the Angelus of August 27th. In the Message, published in full below, the two leaders emphasize that the degraded environment is the result of a degradation of human ecology, where man no longer sees himself as guardian of creation and "collaborator of God ", but as an "over lord ". The prayer for a change of mindset is accompanied by a pressing demand for all those who have economic, social, political, cultural responsibilities to work in harmony "for the healing of our wounded creation," of which "those who live In poverty in every corner of the globe" are the greatest victims. The need for "shared and accountable" responsibility, giving priority to “solidarity and service" is underlined.

The story of creation presents us with a panoramic view of the world. Scripture reveals that, “in the beginning”, God intended humanity to cooperate in the preservation and protection of the natural environment.
