God's Word For Today

God's Word For Today

Matthew 6:24

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon."

Comment:

Why is it that many professing Christians serve two masters? Of course this is easy to do without knowing that it has even happened. Life can easily be a distraction. There are so many things that can get in the way of our Savior and Lord. Paul said that Jesus the Creator should always be number one. As you and I know, we may mean well, but sometimes putting food on the table changes from a necessity to an obsession.  This can even happen to those of us who are in the ministry. The “ministry” can become more important than our relationship with the one we are ministering to and for. Sometimes it is time to take some time out and assess the situation.

Application:

Sharing this verse has cause me to look deeper into my own personal life. This is what the Word of God does if we take it seriously. It is easy to become the preacher and not be willing to be a listener. When God speaks, it is not always in a loud voice. Maybe stop and pray about this. We should never serve two masters.
