God's Word For Today

Luke 4:3-4

"And the devil said to Him, If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread. But Jesus answered him, saying, it is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God."

Comment:

In these verses, we see how Satan tempted Jesus, the Creator of the universe. Of course, Jesus could have done exactly what Satan asked Him to do to put a stop to his hunger, but instead Jesus used the situation to proclaim the Word of God and rebuke Satan. While physical food is important to a life that is temporal, the Word of God is essential when it comes to things of the Spirit and eternity.

Application:

How important is the Bible to your daily living? While food is very important, one can eat well and end up in hell while the Word of God is denied or ignored. Every believer should feast upon the Word of God on a daily basis in a time of devotional thought. If you are not devoting a specific amount of time to reading and studying the Word then your spiritual life will suffer. If you are not a believer, the Word of God is a not important to you at all and you are walking on thin ice. Open the Bible and ask God to show you that what you are reading is the truth.
