Bryce Homes Kenya Update |
|||||
We are pleased, as Bryce Homes of Kenya, to write to you as we share the success stories and impact realized across all the households in this Program. This Easter, goodness of God has been the song that Bryce Homes widows and orphans of Kenya sing. They have been deliberate in giving thanks for God’s unfailing love and faithfulness in their lives as they reflect on how far this Program has brought them. They appreciate the readers of Lighthouse Trails and UTT publications for heeding to God’s call to generosity. Earlier this month, we had a deliberate plan to visit every household and spare some time with the orphans and widows on a case by case basis. Since some of the homes are only accessible on foot, we traversed villages and in most cases met people who had heard of the acts of generosity done by Bryce Homes. In these communities, most people are given into drunkenness and negative culture which has ravaged many homes and left many children without parental support and care. Majority of people in these communities stopped us and openly testified of the support being accorded to these needy households. We however used the opportunity to share the gospel of Christ and most of them gave their lives to Christ in the process. Regarding the Bryce Homes, we had a privilege to learn the names and stories of orphans and vulnerable children in every household. Even though we have occasionally shared some in these reports, this time we were very intentional about some details. How we wish the stories of these children remain in the forefront of our minds and hearts more often that we may always thank God for His unfailing love and faithfulness.
Wendy, Faith, Sheryl, Velma and Lucas (currently BH#15) lived a normal life with both mother and father. Their father who was the only family breadwinner was suddenly sentenced to life imprisonment following a mysterious occurrence in their neighborhood over eight years ago. Coincidentally, their mother was diagnosed of cancer and later passed on. Their elder sister (Wendy) describes, on their behalf, how their close relatives neglected them until Bryce Homes came to their rescue and attached them to BH #15. Since then, they have been fully supported in this Program with the monthly food donations that every last one of you generously give. These children highly appreciate everyone who has been involved in supporting them.
Another case is BH #13 in which Widow Finter shared her painful story as she recalls how she was evicted from her matrimonial home with her four children over 12 years ago. As soon as her husband passed on, her brother in-laws forcefully wanted to inherit her as a wife but she was cautious with her health in fear of being infected with HIV/AIDS. Her firm position against the negative culture led to her eviction from the home. Thankfully, Bryce Homes Program came to her help and she had to travel with her four children and get sheltered over 300km away. Here, Bryce Homes bought a parcel and built her a house. Today, her sons and daughter are grown and two of them have got basic training in artisan work and begun to earn a living. She is so grateful to the Almighty God for bringing her this far with the help of Bryce Homes International.
Finter is
now a happy mother despite being a widow. Her three children, a daughter and
two sons have grown and become adults with the support of Bryce Homes
Program. The two sons are now self-dependent following successful completion
of Artisan Courses in Woodwork and Joinery. They highly thank the readers
for the kind regular donations that have nourished them from childhood.
Their widowed mother is still with the last born son and two grandchildren
to provide for. She therefore continues to be a beneficiary of these gifts
and she is so grateful.
In some Bryce Homes, for instance BH #28, systemic illnesses had subjected the only surviving parents (in most cases mothers) to difficulty in upbringing children. BH #28 is a case of five children whose mother had prolonged illness which was always on and off. Their mother, Molly was a hardworking woman involved in Small Business Opportunity but her health condition could keep her off the business for several months every year. Bryce Homes Program stepped in to provide monthly support for the sake of the children. When the mother later passed on, this program continued to support the children who were left in tender age. Marylyn, Linder, Shady, Noel and Pius happily grow up with the help of this program and everyone in their neighborhood testifies about this. We later integrated them into another home where they were attached to a caregiver who helps cook for them as we regularly supply them with the support in form of foodstuff and soap.
We were able to pay a short visit to BH #28 and we are glad these children continue to grow in cheer. See the kind of impacts made possible by remaining faithful to the call of generosity. We thank God for everyone involved in making this a reality.
In a couple of months, we are going to dwell in these testimonies in our reports every month to appreciate each of these success stories and impacts. From the beginning of this Program, over 180 households with an average of five people each have now been impacted. Every household in the Program is given a unique number and known as BH. This helps us keep information which is unique from one household to another. Most of these households
BH #59: Maurine 2 wears her trademark smile whenever we visit her to deliver the Bryce Homes gifts. We are so impressed with the impact these gifts bring to these once forgotten families. Glory to God!
