“HIS REST”

“For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.” Hebrews 4:10

Just as God rested on the seventh day of creation because His work was finished, we can enter into the rest of the finished work of Jesus Christ. Jesus said on the cross “It is finished”! If I truly believe the Good News of the Gospel that Jesus died for my sin... and I am a believer saved by grace through faith I can trust in the Lord and enter into His rest. Rest is our eternally unshakable relationship with God that can be entered or ignored here on earth as we await the eternal fulfillment to come.

Entering into God’s rest is to trust and obey. Not entering into this rest is disobedience. In times of testing and trial we can safely lean on the arm of the one who knows what it is to suffer and obey... the one who loves us beyond what we can comprehend.

The way we rest and stay in His rest is to give up “trying to make our lives what we want or expect”. We need to daily expose ourselves to the Word in a way that allows God to expose the sinful desires of our hearts. The Word of God convicts and corrects as it penetrates into our thoughts. God’s Word illuminated by the Spirit can renew us and change us.

Let us strive to rest... pay closer attention to the Word of God... listen to God’s voice... trust in God... hold fast to Jesus.

“Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” Hebrews 4: 11-13
