October 14 -China state media blasts US shutdown, calls for a 'de-Americanized' world
 Article: One World Government

With days to go before the United States debt default deadline, Beijing aired its frustrations with the shutdown Sunday, saying it was time to consider a "de-Americanized" world order. With $1.28 trillion in U.S. Treasuries, China is easily the biggest foreign holder of American debt.

"As U.S. politicians of both political parties are still shuffling back and forth between the White House and the Capitol Hill without striking a viable deal to bring normality to the body politic they brag about, it is perhaps a good time for the befuddled world to start considering building a de-Americanized world," according to a stinging op-ed article by state news agency, Xinhua. The article, published Sunday, conveyed Beijing's frustration with the spending and debt impasse that has paralyzed Washington for more than two weeks.

"Days when the destinies of others are in the hands of a hypocritical nation have to be terminated, and a new world order should be put in place, according to which all nations, big or small, poor or rich, can have their key interests respected and protected on an equal footing," the piece added.

October 21 - NXT-ID files patent application for biometric wallet technology
Article: Technology For A Global Monetary System

NXT-ID has announced that it has submitted a patent application for its digital wallet technology - the Wocket. "Rather than attempting to replace the wallet, as companies such as Google and Isis are doing by putting contactless payment capability on smartphones, our method brings the wallet into the 21st century," Gino Pereira, CEO of NXT-ID said.

"We offer an alternative solution to those who do not wish to give up their wallet and market studies show that represents a significant portion of the population. We offer the modern wallet an electronic vault that is actually part of the wallet, securely protecting private information accessible only by the user via biometric enabled multi-factor authentication. What is unique about this invention is that it secures private information found within a typical wallet, such as credit cards, debit cards, identification information, medical information and records and makes this private information available to owners via an interface made so simple that anyone can use it as they would use their wallet today."

October 22 - Toward Big Hearted Ecumenism: Pope Francis Speaks to Lutheran Leaders and Shows Us the Way
Article: Ecumenical Movement - Protestants Uniting With Roman Catholics

On Monday, October 21, 2013, Pope Francis met with members of the Lutheran World Federation and representatives of the Lutheran-Catholic Commission on Unity. Like his predecessors, Blessed John Paul II and His Holiness Benedict XVI, Francis is a Pope of Christian unity.

His words to the Lutheran leaders are further evidence of his intention to continue the work of authentic ecumenism. After some personal reflections on our call to promote authentic Christian collaboration, I set them forth in full below.

Francis said: Divisions among us, but also divisions among the communities: evangelical Christians, orthodox Christians, Catholic Christians, but why divided? We must try to bring about unity. Let me tell you something, today, before leaving home, I spent 40 minutes more or less, half an hour, with an evangelical pastor. And we prayed together, seeking unity.  But we Catholics must pray with each other and other Christians. Pray that the Lord gift us (with) unity! Unity among ourselves! How will we ever have unity among Christians if we are not capable of having it among us Catholics, in the family, how many families fight and split up? Seek unity, unity builds the Church and comes from Jesus Christ. He sends us the Holy Spirit to build unity!

October 21 - Pope Francis' Address to the Lutheran World Federation and Members of the Lutheran-Catholic Commission for Unity
Article: Ecumenical Movement - Protestants Uniting With Roman Catholics

At 11 o'clock this morning, the Holy Father Francis received in audience a delegation of the Lutheran World Federation and members of the Lutheran-Catholic Commission for Unity. Here is a translation of the greeting the Pope addressed to those present. Dear Lutheran Brothers and Sisters, and Dear Catholic Brethren,  I gladly welcome all of you, delegation of the Lutheran World Federation and representatives of the Lutheran-Roman Catholic International Commission on Unity. This meeting follows the very cordial and pleasant one I had with you, esteemed Bishop Younan, and with the Secretary of the Lutheran World Federation, Reverend Junge, on the occasion of the celebration of the beginning of my ministry as Bishop of Rome.

I look, with a sense of profound gratitude to the Lord Jesus Christ, at the numerous steps that relations between Lutherans and Catholics have taken in the last decades, and not only through theological dialogue, but also through fraternal collaboration in many pastoral areas, above all, in the commitment to progress in spiritual ecumenism. The latter constitutes, in a certain sense, the soul of our journey to full communion, and enables us to look forward henceforth to some fruit, even if imperfect: in the measure in which we come close with humility of spirit to Our Lord Jesus Christ, we are certain to come close also between ourselves,  and in the measure in which we invoke from the Lord the gift of unity, we are certain that He will take us by the hand and He will be our guide. We must let ourselves be taken by the hands of the Lord Jesus Christ.

October 23 - Pope Francis draws non-believers to notice Gospel, cardinal says
 Article: Ecumenical Movement - Miscellaneous

The president of the Pontifical Council for Culture, Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, said that in the first six months of his pontificate Pope Francis "has gotten the world, and non-believers as well, to focus their attention on the Gospel."

In an interview with Madrid-based news agency Europa Press published Oct. 17, Cardinal Ravasi said this fact is part of the reform that the Pope is carrying out at the pastoral level, but that one of the most important reforms will consist of making the Roman Curia "lighter" and "more essential", without "so much structure, so many diacasteries, so many people."

Cardinal Ravasi said the reform is also aimed at making the Curia "more international" and "strengthening the relationships with dioceses, with bishops, with local Churches."

In his view, Pope Francis' connection with people stems from three elements of communication that he has adopted: the use of simple phrases, as in 'Tweets'; the use of images or symbols employed in advertising in today's television world, such as when he compared the Church to a field hospital; and the use of body language.

October 25 - Colorado parish cultivates 'new evangelization' spirit
Article: Roman Catholic Church And The Last Days

A Denver-area parish's mission week seeks new and creative ways to bring people to church and to encourage Catholics to create "a culture of the new evangelization."
Fr. Cardo said the parish, in the south Denver suburb of Sheridan, has tried to avoid a typical mission practice of hosting a speaker to give several talks. "That usually works for those who already come to everything. We want to get new people." Instead, the parish extends mission activities across a whole week and focuses on activities, rather than a talk.

The events are designed to be creative and different, in ways that encourage parishioners to invite their friends and family.  For young adults, the parish hosted a Friday night "Oktoberfeast" party with free food and free draft beer in a specially designed glass. The party, now in its third year, has the mood of a German-style Oktoberfest.
