June 17 - Genetically modified babies given go ahead by UK ethics body
Article: Cloning And Genetic Egineering
Comment from UTT:
Genetic modification of human babies has been given a
green light in the UK. While the claim is that this will bring about a
positive outcome for mankind in the future, the potential for disaster
may also be in the making. Man does not have the wisdom to play God.
The creation of babies whose DNA has
been altered to give them what parents perceive to
be the best chances in life has received a cautious
green light in a
landmark report from a leading UK
ethics body.
The
Nuffield Council on Bioethics
said
that
changing the DNA of a human embryo could be "morally
permissible" if it was in the future child's
interests and did not add to the kinds of
inequalities that already divide society.

July 25 - A string of earthquakes off the west coast of the US are detected miles from the Cascadia fault, where scientists warn 'the Big One' could be poised to hit at any time
Article: Signs Of The Last Times
Comment from UTT:
Predictions are being made by seismologists based on recent earthquakes
that the west coast of the United States may soon experience the "Big
One."
A
series of earthquakes have shaken a region of ocean
off the west coast of the US. Scientists have
detected
a cluster of 11 earthquakes, ranging in
magnitude from 2.8 to 5.6 on the Richter scale.
The cluster occurred on the
seabed at the Juan de Fuca tectonic plate, around
six miles (10km) underwater. This plate forms part
of the Cascadia subduction zone, which runs from
Northern California to British Columbia. Previous
studies
have warned this geological
spot of weakness has the potential to deliver an
earthquake much stronger than the infamous San
Andreas fault.
Seismologists say a full
rupture along the 650-mile-long (1,000 km) offshore
fault could trigger a 9.0 magnitude earthquake and
an accompanying tsunami.

July 25 - Evangelicals Warn Mary Has 'Taken Jesus' Place on the Cross' as Millions Seek Miracles in France
Article: Roman Catholic Church And The Last Days
Comment from UTT:
Over the past couple of decades there has been a trend
for many evangelicals to join together with Catholics, creating an
ecumenical unity. This article makes it clear that a "Mary" centered
Christianity is not biblical Christianity
As millions of people travel to
Lourdes, France, every year
in search of divine healing, some
evangelical missionaries are warning that at the
holy site venerated by Catholics, many are revering
the Virgin Mary more than Jesus Christ.
"For followers of Jesus Christ, the
atmosphere in Lourdes is dark and discouraging.
Christians know that it is 'the Lord who heals you'
(Exodus 15:26). The determination and expectation of
6 million pilgrims a year feels overwhelming," Pioneers,
a missions agency that is based in Florida but has
offices worldwide, said last week.

July 24 - Israel Draws Red Line with Russia
Article: Israel And The Last Days
Comment from UTT:
Israel is very much aware of the
threat Iran poses to their future existence in the middle-east. They are
also aware of the alliance between Russia and Iran and the threat this
is to them.
According to officials,
Israel is
demanding that exactly zero Iranian forces be allowed
anywhere in Syria period.
This is a red line that is driving a
wedge into Israeli-Russian relations.

July 19 - The cashless society is a con - and big finance is behind it
Article: Technology For A Global Monetary System
Comment from UTT:
The world is gradually being forced into a society that eliminates
checks and cash, replacing all financial transactions electronically and
digitally.
All over the western world
banks are
shutting down cash machines
and
branches.
They are trying to push you into using their
digital payments and digital banking
infrastructure. Just like Google wants
everyone to access and navigate the broader
internet via its privately controlled search
portal, so financial institutions want
everyone to access and navigate the broader
economy through their systems.
Another aim is to cut costs
in order to boost profits. Branches require
staff. Replacing them with standardised
self-service apps allows the senior managers
of financial institutions to directly
control and monitor interactions with
customers. Banks, of course, tell us a
different story about why they do this. I
recently got a letter from my bank telling
me that
they are shutting
down local branches because "customers are
turning to digital", and they are thus
"responding to changing customer
preferences". I am one of the customers they
are referring to, but I never asked them to
shut down the branches.

July 23 - Cambridge University scientists create artificial embryo from stem cells
Article: Cloning And Genetic Egineering
Comment from UTT:
British scientists continue to tinker with life, relaxing the current
ethics standards and creating the possibility of producing human embryos
without the process of fertilization.
Artificial embryos built from
scratch using stem cells have been created
by scientists.
Researchers
bypassed the act of
fertilisation by growing the self-assembling
structures in the laboratory.
Although the cells used came
from mice, the experiment has opened up a
new frontier in embryo research with major
ethical implications.
Creating embryos in the lab
is expected to help scientists unlock the
mysteries of early human development.
