News Alert - July 28 - Muslim scholars calls for 'global uprising' against Israel
Article: Israel And The Last Days

Comment from Understand The Times

The following article outlines the critical situation that has developed in the Mid East. The scenario outlined in Ezekiel 38 is now set for an attack on Israel characterized by a nuclear holocaust. We are in the last to the last days.

A prestigious group of Muslim scholars on Sunday called for staging what it called a "global uprising" in support of the Gaza Strip, which has been reeling under a wide-scale Israeli offensive for three weeks now.

"The free world should quickly act to end the Zionist aggression on Gaza and uphold the rights of the Palestinian people," it added in a statement.

The International Union of Muslim Scholars said in its statement that Arab and Islamic states have to take steps at the international level to put pressure on Israel to halt its assault on Gaza.

July 25 - Iran: We Provided Hamas with Rocket Technology
Article: Israel And The Last Days

Iran provided the Hamas terrorist group with the technology it has used to rain down rockets on Israel from Gaza, its parliament speaker boasted on Thursday. Tehran frequently boasts of the financial and material support it gives to Hamas and Islamic Jihad but more rarely talks of its military assistance, noted AFP.

"Today, the fighters in Gaza have good capabilities and can meet their own needs for weapons,"
speaker Ali Larijani was quoted as having told the Arabic service of state television. "But once upon a time, they needed the arms manufacture know-how and we gave it to them," he said.

July 24 - Al Qaeda Targeting U.S. Infrastructure for Digital 9/11
 Article: Miscellaneous

Al Qaeda, nation states, and criminals are preparing for major cyber attacks against U.S. infrastructure that could be comparable to the devastating September 11 attacks on New York and Washington, a senior Justice Department official said on Thursday.

"We're in a pre-9/11 moment, in some respects, with cyber,"
said John Carlin, assistant attorney general for national security in the Justice Department.

Carlin also said during remarks at a security conference that China's government dared the Obama administration to provide court-level evidence of Chinese military hacking against the United States. The dare resulted in the May 1 indictment of five members of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) hacking group known as Unit 63198, he said.

July 26 - Pope Francis to meet with evangelical pastor
Article: Ecumenical Movement Protestants Uniting With Roman Catholics

Pope Francis' upcoming encounter with the evangelical Christian pastor Giovanni Traettino continues the path of dialogue he has walked with evangelical denominations since his time in Buenos Aires.

Pope Francis met Traettino in 2006, while he was Archbishop of Buenos Aires, at the third fraternal meeting of the Renewed Communion of Evangelicals and Catholics in the Spirit.  In his intervention, Bergoglio prayed that "the Father close our mouth with an embrace and unite us more and more."

Before he supported the Charismatic movement, Cardinal Bergoglio was indeed very sceptical of it. "Back at the end of the 1970s and the beginning of the 1980s, I had no time for charismatics," the Pope said. "Once, speaking about them, I said: 'These people confuse a liturgical celebration with samba lessons.' Now I regret it. Now I think that this movement does much good for the Church overall."

July 28 - Pope Greets Evangelicals as Brothers
Article: Ecumenical Movement Protestants Uniting With Roman Catholics

Pope Francis made a private visit to Caserta on Monday, his second trip to the southern Italian city in three days. The purpose of this visit was to meet an old friend from Buenos Aires, pastor Giovanni Traettino, and greet evangelicals and members of the community Traettino founded, the Pentecostal Church of the Reconciliation. After arrival by helicopter soon after 10am and greeting Traettino and his family, Pope Francis was welcomed by nearly 350 Pentecostals, who had traveled to Caserta from around Italy, as well as from the United States and South America.

According to La Stampa, he acknowledged that "some people are surprised that the Pope has come to find evangelicals." But for him, he said, "I came to find brothers."

He continued: "It is a temptation to say, 'I am the Church'; you are a sect. Jesus prayed for unity. The Holy Spirit brings diversity to the Church. He makes diversity. But the same Holy Spirit brings unity, and the Church is one in its diversity - a diversity reconciled by the Holy Spirit."

July 28 - Bishop Davies: Lourdes shrine a light amid war, death
Article: Roman Catholic Church And The Last Days

This weekend, shortly before today's centenary of the beginning of World War I, an English bishop has said that the Marian shrine of Lourdes remains "undimmed" and still invites everyone to see the "light of the Gospel," Jesus Christ.

He said that Lourdes has "continued its clear witness to the value of every person, especially those most in danger of being discarded" despite global war and ideologies which aim to "strip human life of its value and dignity."

Bishop Davies preached during a Mass said at the grotto of Lourdes, which marks the spot where the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Bernardette Soubirous 18 times in 1858. The apparition told St. Bernardette, a sickly 13-year-old, to pray for sinners and to drink from a spring. The shrine and its waters have become a place for many miraculous healings.

Article: Israel And The Last Days

Iranian spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, called on Tuesday to the Muslim world to rise above the current political and religious conflicts in order to demonstrate a united front, in support of the "Palestinian" war against Israel.

Khamenei claimed that "The slaughter that the Zionist rule is undertaking in Gaza is a derivative of the rift existing within the Muslim world," and of the lack of unity and ability to appear as a single Islamic nation, which will lead the "Imperialistic forces" to continue to extort the Muslims.

August 2 - Archbishop Chaput Speaks at the Napa Institute Conference on Pope Francis and Economic Justice
 Article:One World Government

But Francis stresses more directly than they did that human solidarity is a necessary dimension of human dignity. We need both. Human dignity requires not just the protection of individuals, as in our pro-life work, but an ongoing commitment to the common good.

Solidarity, he says in Evangelii Gaudium, is a relationship of love and reconciliation. It's a mutual concern for the other's good (29). He finds this modeled for us in the Mass and in Mary's great Yes to God. Defined economically, it puts "the community and the priority of the life of all over the appropriation of goods by the few." To put it negatively, "what satisfies one at the expense of the other ends up destroying both" (Pope Francis: His Life in His Own Words, edited by Francesca Ambrogetti and Sergio Rubin). We need to live in solidarity with one another because we can't change our social structures if we don't. Without learning solidarity, any new political or economic structure will become as corrupt as the old (Evangelii Gaudium, 188-189).
