April 5 - Holy Land bishops urge Christian-Muslim unity against extremism
Article: Ecumenical Movement - Other Religions Uniting With Roman Catholics

The Holy Land's bishops have said that Christians and Muslims need to unite against extremism, stressing that people of all beliefs are at risk.

"Christians and Muslims need to stand together against the new forces of extremism and destruction,"
the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land said in an April 2 statement posted on the website of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem.

"All Christians and many Muslims are threatened by these forces that seek to create a society devoid of Christians and where only very few Muslims will be at home," the assembly continued. "All those who seek dignity, democracy, freedom and prosperity are under attack. We must stand together and speak out in truth and freedom."

April 4 - Mysticism, Monasticism, and the New Evangelization
Article: Roman Catholic Church And The Last Days

Comment from Understand The Times:

This article clearly shows the connection of the Emerging Church with the Roman Catholic New Evangelization Program to win the world for the Roman Catholic Eucharistic Christ

"If God exists, He must be felt. If He is Love, it must be experienced and become the fact of one's inmost life. Without spiritual enlightenment, all is an idle talk, like a bubble which vanishes under the least pressure. Without the awakening of the religious sense or faculty, God is a shadow, the soul a ghost, and life a dream." - Soyen Shaku, Zen For Americans "Put out into deep water, and lower your nets for a catch." - Luke 5:4

While Catholics generally respect the contemplative vocation, they may see it as peripheral to supposedly more urgent concerns, such as improving catechesis and the liturgy, or bearing witness to faith and morality in public life. Those concerns are critical. But we believe the New Evangelization of historically Christian countries also requires a rediscovery of Christian mysticism, and a revival of the monastic setting which is its natural home.

The unprecedented double canonisation event will be produced in 3D by the Vatican TV Center (CTV) in a partnership with Rupert Murdoch's Sky Italia, BSkyB and Sky Deutschland payboxes, and Sony. The ceremony will also be beamed into 3D movie theatres across Europe and in North and South America, in what is being touted as the first convergence of HD, 3D and 4K technologies for such a high-profile multimedia 3D event.

At a press conference in the Vatican, CTV chief Monignor Dario Vigano said the live transmission will require "more satellites than the Sochi Olympics."

April 9 - Survey finds Americans more skeptical of the Bible
 Article: Miscellaneous

A new poll finds a sharp increase in the number of Americans who consider the Bible merely the teachings of men rather than the word of God.

The fourth annual State of the Bible Survey was conducted just over two months ago by the Barna Group for the American Bible Society.

It found that while about one in five Americans continues to read the Bible at least four times a week and view it as divinely inspired, an equal percentage doubt the Bible's relevance and authority. That's almost twice the percentage of those who were skeptical of the Bible in 2011.

April 8 - Beef prices hit all-time high in U.S.
Article: Signs Of The Last Times

Come grilling season, expect your sirloin steak to come with a hearty side of sticker shock. Beef prices have reached all-time highs in the U.S. and aren't expected to come down any time soon.

Extreme weather has thinned the nation's beef cattle herds to levels last seen in 1951, when there were about half as many mouths to feed in America.

"We've seen strong prices before but nothing this extreme," said Dennis Smith, a commodities broker for Archer Financial Services in Chicago. "This is really new territory."
