October 13 - China May Help Russia in Syria Conflict

China has made its presence known near Syria, even as they call for a political solution to end the fighting.

Want China Times is saying Beijing is not directly involved in military strikes against ISIS, but the country is trying to make an impact.

The U.S. wants a change in leadership in Syria, and is backing opposition forces, but Russia is behind President Bashar al-Assad. China has also remained an ally of Syria. Both the U.S. and Russia are courting China for help in fighting ISIS there.

Recently, Russian media reported a Chinese aircraft carrier and a guided missile cruiser were in the Mediterranean Sea. DEBKAfile, an Israeli military news site has reported the aircraft carrier is docked at the Syrian port of Tartus, and Chinese troops are expected to join the Russians in the Latakia region, where Russia is building a military base.

Meanwhile, China has said Russia and the U.S. must avoid fighting a proxy war in Syria. The ruling Communist Party is accusing both sides of having an “outdated Cold War mindset”, in an editorial in flagship People’s Daily newspaper.
