December 30 - Saskatchewan insurance fund to implement facial recognition for driver licences

Provincial auto insurance fund Saskatchewan Government Insurance is seeking facial recognition and image capture solutions to further improve security and protect Saskatchewan citizens against fraud.  The requests proposals are part of SGI’s request for proposal for driver’s licence and identification card production services.
 
The facial recognition software will help protect Saskatchewan residents from identity theft as well as prevent people from registering for multiple licences and/or IDs.
 
Currently, Saskatchewan and Quebec are the only Canadian provinces that are not using facial recognition software in their driver’s licensing programs.
 
SGI has given all interested vendors until February 13, 2015 to submit their proposals for the facial recognition services.
Previously reported, ImageWare Systems signed a deal valued at more than $1 million with Funciones Ocupacionales Insha, to provide software that will facilitate a multi-modal biometric driver license system for the state of Baja California, Mexico.
