POSSIBLE PLAN FOR PEACE

Commentary by Roger Oakland
www.understandthetimes.org

Killing people in the name of “god” has to stop. It is for this reason that world religious leaders, politicians and scientists have been meeting in large gatherings for the last two decades attempting to come up with a solution.

Let’s look at a brief review of recent global meetings for peace. There was the “Summit for Peace in Assisi” in October of 1986. Two years later in Oxford, England a similar gathering occurred. Then in August of 2000, the General Assembly hall of the United Nations in New York City became a sanctuary for leaders of the world’s religions to discuss the threat of global terrorism.

One year and one month later an event happened in the very same city – 9-1-1. It was this water-shed event that triggered the need for a global peace plan. In January of 2002, Pope John Paul II gathered representatives from numerous religions and denominations of Christianity to gather and pray for peace - once more in Assisi.

It seems as if the script has been written. Religious strife requires a religious solution headed up by some spiritual leader. Peace is imperative if our planet is to survive.

A Possible Plan

Pope John Paul II had a plan for world peace. On several occasions he explained that his plan required an office in Jerusalem. He believed the head of the Holy See should become the mayor of the Old City of Jerusalem. In this way the Roman Catholic Church would become the mediator between “Jews” and “Muslims”.

Of course it is common knowledge that the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem is the most disputed piece of real estate on the entire planet. The former pope’s plan would accomplish two things: One, it would be a road map for establishing peace in the middle east; And two, it would be key to establishing the Kingdom of God here on earth, which is a Roman Catholic priority.

The present pope, Benedict XVI, has a noticeably similar peace plan. On April 6, 2006, he held discussions with Shimon Peres, former prime minister of Israel. A newspaper headline summarized their common agenda: “Pope receives Peres: peace in Holy Land, no to terrorism, respect for bilateral agreements”. The following quote gives interesting insight into what may lie ahead:

Peres also pledged his concern for the question of access to the Holy Sites.  “Even in this case,” he said, “it is a matter of improving the situation, including in Nazareth, so that pilgrims can always find a friendly and conducive atmosphere for their visits.” [1]

Now think for a moment! It makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it? What if the leader of the world’s largest “Christian” organization became the mediator between Jews and Muslims, with an office in Jerusalem?

It can also be documented that on February 6, 2006, a chief Rabbi for Jerusalem asked the Dalai Lama to consider heading up a religious United Nations in Jerusalem. [2] What if the pope, the mayor of the Old City of Jerusalem, suggested the Temple Mount be the location where the United Nations for all religions be built – with the Delhi Lama as the chief?

Wouldn’t this be interesting in light of Bible prophecy?
